IMPORTANCE OF TELEVISION

            We are living in the age of science and technology. We se many wonder inventions around us. Their number is increasing day-by-day. Television, radio, motorcar, railway engine, aeroplane, ship, camera, electrical goods such refrigerator, air-conditioner, computer, calculator and telephone etc, are very \useful and wonderful scientific inventions, these inventions have made our life comfortable and interesting, They have changed the ways of our thinking and living.

          
            TELEVISION is a ‘Greek’ word, which means to see from a distance. If is a most wonderful invention of our age. Television is not only a source of enjoyment and entertainment but also a source of information. It provides us recreation in drawing room. It has rendered great services to the cause of education. The experienced teachers, scientists, doctors and engineers deliver their lectures through television. The students all over the country listen to them on television screen. They are benefited by their teachings. Politicians use television to educate public opinion o burning issues of the day. Religious scholars discuss various religious matters. In the field of medicine the latest research findings are publicized, Businessman introduces their products through advertisement on television. With the advent of dish antenna and cable, channels of various countries of the world are on the fingertips of the viewers who can see television programmes for 24 hours.

  
            Although television has given us many advantages but we should be careful of its demerits. Television programmes are a mixed blessing. It is a source of entertainment and knowledge by it consumes a great deal of precious time of the viewers who watch programmes hours together neglecting their duties and responsibilities of daily life. Students neglect their studies and women neglect their domestic duties while enjoying their favorite programmes. The programmes of vulgarity and violence are demoralizing people particularly teenagers. Moreover, eyesight of a viewer is affected if he o she sees the television from a close distance. Some dishonest businessmen make use of television to introduce their bogus products and thus cheat the innocent people. Government also uses it as propaganda machinery.
