Essay and it's types

An essay is usually a short piece of writing. It is often written from an author's personal point of view. Essays can be literary criticism, political manifestos, learned  arguments, observations of daily life, recollections, and reflections of the author.
The word essay derives from the French infinitive essayer, "to try" or "to attempt". In English essay first meant "a trial" or "an attempt", and this is still an alternative meaning. The Frenchman Michel de Montaigne (1533-1592) was the first author to describe his work as essays; he used the term to characterize these as "attempts" to put his thoughts adequately into writing

THE CITY WHERE I LIVE IN (KARACHI)

THE CITY WHERE I LIVE IN
(KARACHI)

The city in which I live is KAACHI. It is the provincial capital of Sindh and the biggest city of Pakistan. It is spread over an area of about 800 square kms. Its population is more than 12 million. Its weather is moderate. I am proud of being a Karachiite because it is the birthplace of the founder of Pakistan, the Quaid-I-Azam. It is the land of great leaders and renowned international scholars. It is the biggest industrial center of Pakistan and the backbone of national economy.

Karachi is a cosmopolitan city and is called ‘MINI-PAKISTAN’ because people from every part of the country come here to live and earn their bread. Therefore, a variety of Pakistani culture can be seen here. It is rightly said that KARACHI BECOMES A HOME TO EVERYONE AND ANYONE. In Karachi, there area large number of embassies government offices, banks and multinational business organizations. It has an international airport and a seaport. There is a long chain of great buildings, hotels, snack bars, clubs, cinemas, parks, libraries, art galleries, beauty parlors, shopping centers, schools, colleges and hospitals. The life in Karachi is very fast and busy. There are so many worth seeing places in Karachi like sea-breeze at Cliftonhawkesay, Sands pit, Manora, Safari park, Hill park and the tomb of the Quaid etc.

When I was a child, Karachi was really a peaceful, clean and less crowded city that it is now. It has expanded by leaps and bounds. Now, EVERYONE BELONGS TO KARACHI BUT KARACHI BELONGS TO NO ONE. There was no planning for this fast growing city. It was left to the mercy of the elements. The result is unchecked growth of population, which has burst this city. Master plans were drawn up but they were never implemented. Karachi deserves inspite of proving 70 percent revenue to the national income. Te result is that the city become a huge jungle where criminals find it very easy to hide, commit crimes and get lost in the jungle, We find uncountable problems in this city For example transport and traffic problems water and sewerage problems, health and education problems pollution problem etc. Different agencies are working to minimize these problems but the work of these agencies is not satisfactory. Shortage of water supply, electric break down and load shedding, road accidents and other such problems, we daily read in newspapers and fat them practically.

If we want to make our beloved city Karachi free from its present problems and to bring back to its past glory we have t cooperate with the government and also have to contribute our share of efforts towards improving its condition. Then and only then there may be any hope for the dark clouds lifting. In the last, I pray that may God bless my city with peace and prosperity, Ameen!

STREET BEGGARS

Begging is a social evil. The beggars are found everywhere in our country. You see them on the roads, at bus stops, at traffic signals, in the markets, near the masjid and at the railway stat ions.

There are two kinds of beggars. Some of them are old and handicapped like blind or lame persons. They deserve our help. The other beggars are professional. They are quite healthy and if they wanted they cold do some work and earn their bread. However, they all prefer to get beg because it is an easier way of earning money. They play all kinds of tricks to get money from the people. Some may start crying with good wishes for your long life and success. Some of them carry a sick person on a trolley or bring along a couple of small children in order to win your sympathy. It is very difficult to find out which beggar is really a needy person. You may find a street beggar following you as you pass through a market and will not leave you until you have give him something. You may find a beggar at every bus stop or the road crossing. He or she is to be seen also near the gates of a masjid. They all desirous of getting money.

The famous proverb that beggars cannot be choosers holds not ground now in the age of modern technology. Beggars are operating at selected places in their own way and style. Now, a new concept of begging has emerged, which is called cyber begging. Since begging has become an industry, modern techniques are being adopted for posh areas like Clifton and Defence in Karachi where the are using modern methods for coordination and conducting their operations which include drug trafficking, dacoit, kidnapping and all other social evils prevalent in society.

Revolutionary measures are needed to eliminate this menace through dedicated efforts and active participation of the people and NGOs. The following measures should be taken in order to overcome this problem: -

Genuine beggars should be given full support by the government. They may be kept in camps and provided with food, health care and shelter, it is the duty of the government to take care of all homeless and handicapped persons. Able-bodied beggars who do not have jobs should be given jobs. Some may be provided training as electricians, mechanics, telephone operators, nursing or in other fields so that they can find jobs ad lead a respectable life. Those who are able-dodied but use beggary as a profession should be punished severely in order to discourage the practice. Zakat money may be used for this purpose.

AN INTERESTING CRICKET MATCH

A FRIENDLY CRICKET MATCH

Last Sunday, we played a friendly cricket match with ABC Eleven at our school ground. It was thirty overs match. Both the teams had reached the playground by past nine. Being Sunday the schools were closed, so naturally, a large number of students from both the schools were present there. Most of the teachers had also come to watch the match and t encourage their respective players. Suitable seating arrangement was made for the guests and the teachers of both the schools.

We won the toss and decided to bat first. The match started at ten in the morning. Unfortunately, our openers we out for only 18 runs. The captain of our team added only 12 runs before he was declared lbw. Now, it was my turn to bat. After playing two maiden overs. I started hitting. I was run out when the score reached 70. The next batsman was Fahad. He played a splendid game and took the score to 124 runs. His 54 runs included one six and three fours. He go out, trying to hit a six. The rest of our players were all out for only 16 runs. Thus our total score was 140 runs. The others team started batting after lunch. Their opener was out for a duck. The ext four players were dismissed very quickly, two bowled, one caught behind and one declared lbw. They added 45 runs to their score. Only the captain of their team could make a stand. He was run out for 30 runs. Our fielding was superb. We took some difficult catches. I took three wickets for 40 runes. Their whole team was out for 115 runs. We won the match by 25 runs. The last hour of the match was very exciting.

We all were very happy on the success. The town Nazim of our area was the chief guest of the award giving ceremony. He had donated the victory shield for that match. The shield was given to our captain by the chief guest in never ceasing noise of cheering and clapping. Fahad was declared to be the man of the match and awarded a cash prize of rupees five hundred by the principal of our school. It was really a memorable match.

A ROAD ACCIDENT

An unexpected and harmful incident is called an accident. But accidents just don’t happen on their own. They are caused due to carelessness and disrespect for laws. Being a dutiful and responsible citizen, we should respect the law. These laws are mad to make life easier and safer. If we ignore traffic rules, we shall not only endanger the lives of others but our own as well.

In Karachi, the drivers of buses, mini-buses, trucks and rickshaws drive very recklessly. They run races o the road. They don’t care about any traffic rules and even break traffic signals. The result is a number of accidents that take place daily. Last Sunday, when I was coming from Tower in a bus, I saw a very serious accident. The bus was running smoothly with normal speed. After sometime another bus of the same route over-took our bus. Our driver got furious. There stated a mad race between the two buses. It was a peak time ad M.A.Jinnah Road ha its usual heavy traffic. We tried to cool down our driver but it seemed he had gone mad. When we reached near Capri Cinema the bus collided with a taxi. We rushed to the spot. The taxi was badly smashed. The driver and passengers were lying unconscious in the pool of blood. Some damage was made to the bus. Apart from the driver three passengers were injured. The other two passengers were also injured. All the four persons were taken to he civil hospital, which was not far away from there. I also went with them. I also went with them. The driver died soon after reaching the hospital. The other two were admitted into the hospital while one went home after first aid. I was badly shocked to see this accident. It was the result of careless driving on the part of the bus driver. He ran away leaving the bus.

This is all because we disobey traffic rules. Our obedience to rules may be helpful n avoiding accidents. In this connection heavy responsibility rests on the traffic police. The police must be strict to the violators of traffic rules. Reckless and negligent drivers must be punished heavily. Licenses should be issued to the drivers who are mentally and physically fit.

A VISIT TO A HISTORICAL PLACE

A visit to a historical place gives as information about the people of past and their ways of life. In the last summer vacation, a few of my friends decided to go to Moen-jo-Daro, a place of great historical interest.

We left Karachi for Larkana by train. On reaching there we stayed in a hotel nest morning, we reached Moen-jo-Daro by bus. It is at a distance of 27 kilometers from Larkana o the right bank of the river Indus. Moen-jo-Daro means ‘Mound of the dead’. Its ruins are about 4500 years old. It was first discovered in 1922, when some villagers found pieces of old pots and bricks at the place. These pieces were brought to Sir John Marshall. He was an English civil servant, whose job was to look after the historical remains. He ordered the men for digging the place. In this way this old city was discovered. When we saw this dead civilization we got an idea that the city was once well built, clean and the center of civilization we got an idea that the city was once well built, clean an the center of civilization. The people of Moen-jo-Daro were great traders, farmers and craftsmen. The trade was carried on through river Indus that was very near and the Sea within easy reach. The countryside must have been fertile since wheat; rice and cotton grew there. The farmers also kept cattle. The were skilled craftsmen who worked in gold, silver and ivory. Clay dolls and carts were made for children to play with. We also have an idea of the dresses worn y the ruling class, the priests and the elders, from the seals of many kinds that have been found there. They wore long, loose dresses.

Near the site of the ruins of Moen-jo-Daro is a museum. We also visited the museum, where interesting objects, found from the ruins, are on exhibition. These objects include seals, jewellery, toys, weapons and painted pottery. The best find of Moen-jo-Daro is the head of a bull, which was used as a seal. A metal statue of a dancing girl has also been found. The people of Moen-jo-Daro were raided from the life. We do not know what happened to them later. Either they were raided from the north or some great earthquake destroyed them. No one has yet been able to determine the meaning of the words written on the seals and on the pottery. Much could be learnt if the language experts are able to decipher these words.

Hundreds of visitors, not only from Pakistan but also from all over the world come to see this dead civilization. Now I was evening, we took last round of the site and retuned to Larkana. This trip was very interesting and informative for us.

HEALTH IS WEALTH

Health is Wealth is an old proverb. It is very true. Good health is one of the boons and blessings of God. An unhealthy person is a burden on society and country both. Wealth is of no value if there is no health. If health is once lost, it is not easy to regain it.

To keep ourselves healthy we must follow certain rules. First of all we must keep our surrounding and ourselves neat and clean. We must also eat balanced diet. Exercise is also necessary to keep ourselves fit. So we must take exercise in fresh air daily. We should also take care of our eyes and teeth. We must not read in dim light. We must brush our teeth regularly. We must not eat stale things. We should never eat such sweets and food, which are not properly covered. If we follow these rules we will be able to keep ourselves healthy. It is also a famous saying that ‘After lunch rest a while and after dinner walk a mile’. Walking is the best exercise to keep us fit and healthy. There is another popular proverb, ‘Early to bed and early to rise makes a person healthy wealthy and wise’. A healthy person can enjoy the beauty of nature. So we must try to maintain good health. ‘Sound mind in a sound body means when our body is diseased our mind is also affected by it.

Most people are not aware of the need for a balanced diet. It is a universal experience that people who eat a simple and balanced diet lead a healthy life. Now a days people cannot resist going to fast food restaurants and food streets, where the food has less nutrient value from the point of view of the calories. They don’t even know that cholesterol, spices and overeating can lead to fatal diseases. The world is now drowned in this bad habit. Excess of anything is bad. Now the life rate of people is decreasing owing to a lazy and inactive lifestyle and an unbalanced diet. We have to check our diet and make sure that our eating habits are healthy.

An American philosopher and poet Mr. R.W. Emerson rightly say it that: -

The First Wealth Is Health

(PAKISTAN DAY CELEBRATIONS)

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS

Pakistan appeared on the map of the world on the 14th August 1947. It is a Red-Letter-Day for us. We celebrate this day with great pomp and show every General holiday is observed throughout the country. On the 14th of August every year people express their love and loyalty to the country and display their patriotic spirit.

The Last Independence Day dawned with special prayer at masjid for the stability, prosperity and progress of the motherland. The flag hoisting ceremony at the mausoleum of the Quaid was an impressive one. Thousands of people specially children and youth gathered at the Quaid’s mausoleum in order to pay homage to the father of the nation. Carrying green flags and singing national songs, they thanked the great leader of the Sub- continent for creating an independent homeland for them. The Governor of Sindh and the Chief Minister along with the cabinet ministers performed the flag hoisting ceremony at the mausoleum. At 7:58am, all kinds of traffic stopped for two minutes with the sounding of the sirens and national anthem was played at 8am. Every body stood still at his place listening to the anthem. Television channels presented special programmes. MY HOBBY

Hobby means a useful work in which one takes interest and derives pleasure by doing it in his spare time. There is a saying ‘An empty mind is a devil’s workshop. To avoid idlepeople have some hobbies. They provide an entertainment to or mind after a day’s hard work. They keep us busy and save us from wasting our time in idle gossip. Hobby provides us a good source of entertainment and amusement.

There are many kinds of hobbies like gardening, stamp-collection, coin-collection, photography, reading and playing games etc. A person adopts according to one’s leisure hours and choice. Gardening is my favorite hobby through which I can see nature and enjoy it. Nature is a true and dependent guide of man. William Wordsworth, The English poet, said that nature never betrays anyone who loves her. My small garden is so lovely that I do something in it daily to add to its beauty. It takes most of my leisure time. I have grown flower plants of rose, lily, jasmine, marigold, poppy, sunflower. The sweet fragrance of the flowers serves as a tonic for my body and mind and thus helps of fruit also. There is an adequate growth of vegetable in our compound. So we rarely purchase any vegetables from the market.

Gardening is my sincere friend and inspires me whenever I am in a depressed mood. Whenever I cast a glance over my small garden and see the beautiful flowers, my heart deal about plant life. Today, I know about the numerous varieties of the plants and flowers. I have learnt the art of vegetable cultivation. Now, botany has become a very interesting subject for me. On holidays, I work hours together in my garden. Hobby is an interesting pursuit trough, which, one can derive pleasure, recreation and amusement during his free time. By having a hobby we can pass our time easily. This is blessing for old and young alike.

(MY AIM IN LIFE)

MY AMBITION IN LIFE

It is not unusual to have dreams about one’s future. Many want to be rich. Some person’s dream of becoming leaders, politicians and social reformers. There are others who have a craze for becoming poets, writers and novelists, while most f us generally have a desire for becoming engineers, scientists, professors and lawyers of a great repute. Some aspire to join the services for becoming officer in army, navy and air force.

I do not wish to become a mill owner or a multi millionaire. My ambition of life is to lead a life of simplicity and piety devoted to the service to humanity. I am a firm believer in the proverb’ Service to humanity is a service to God’. One can serve fellow human being in so many ways. He may adopt such a profession, which provides more opportunities for services t o humanity. My aim of life is to serve suffering humanity. So I have decided to become a good doctor. This is my keen desire. I know that it is a noble profession and people belonging to this profession have great respect in the society. Moreover this profession is exciting and challenging. You have to work for long hours and it requires great dedication. However, it is a rewarding profession provided one’s motive is to serve mankind and utilize one’s knowledge and ability to ease their pain and suffering.

After the completion of my education. I will set up a clinic in some locality of poor working class. The standard of public health is not so good in these areas. I want to play my role in reducing their sufferings. As a doctor it will be my object to charge only a reasonable fee from the patients. I honestly feel that millions of my fellow countrymen deserve our attention. The noble profession is that which helps common man in improving their standard of living and reducing their sufferings. It has been rightly said that ‘God created man to share the worries of other persons’. The theme of this proverb is my motto. I shall not urn after the riches. I will try my best to achieve this goal. God help me in achieving my aim. Ameen!

MY LAST DAY AT SCHOOL / A FAREWELL PARTY

A MEMORABLE DAY OF MY LIFE

The last day at school is a memorable day of my life. It was the 27th day February, when we went to school with mixed feeling of joy and sorrow. According to the tradition of our school, the class-10th.

The school belt rang as usual on our departing bay. In the second period we all assembled in the school hall. The function started with the recitation from the Holy Quran followed by a Naat. Then our class teacher delivered a brief speech. He gave us very valuable and useful devices. He declared the school life as golden days and stated that teachers, friends and above all the memories would never be forgotten. The atmosphere became gloomy. We were all feeling sad on this occasion and some of us had tears in our eyes. Then our principal delivered a long and delightful speech recalling happy days at school and made us laugh. He talked of our association with the school for several years. It was the school as well as its worthy teachers that had prepared the students for the struggle of life. He explained in details the advantages of simple living and high thinking. In the end he wished us good lick and a bright future. After his speech, our class monitor thanked the principal, staff members and the students of class 9th for their good wishes. He promised, on behalf of his class fellows that they would keep in mind the lessons taught by their teachers. He further said that they would do their best to remove poverty and illiteracy from Pakistan. He assured the principal and the teachers that they would never forget their Alma Mater.

After the speeches, refreshment was served with cold drink. The last item of the function was a group photograph. At last the time for final parting came. We had both smile on our faces and tears in our eyes. We school hands with our teachers and friends and said good-bye to the school.

But he found out very soon that the Hindu leaders were not in favor of giving equal rights to the Muslims. They wanted to establish Hindu-Raj In India. So, the Quid-e-Azam lift the congress and joined the Muslim League. He loved the helpless Muslims in India under the British and the Hindu domination. He wanted to liberate Muslims. He therefore, began to encourage, organize and unite them under the banner of Muslim League. The Muslim League started the untiring struggle for the freedom under the wise leadership of the Quid-e-Azam. By virtue of the wisdom, will power, courage and long struggle of the Quid-e-Azam, we got Pakistan on 14th August 1947. The entire nation is grateful to his beloved national hero Quid-e-Azam. Though he is no longer with us, he has left for our guidance his three watchwords of “Faith, Unity and Discipline”.

Moreover, his speeches are there to guide us. In his speeches he advised us that Pakistan can only prosper and grow stronger if the people serve it with honest and selfless devotion. He told his people that what they needed most was a good education. If we follow the directions given in his speeches, our beloved country would become, Insha-Allah, not only great and strong but a fortress of Islam.
